Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurological disorder in people. It is a behavioral condition followed by three main symptoms inability to concentrate, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. It's more common in children and lasts until adulthood. There are about 8.4% of children diagnosed with ADHD worldwide.

ADHD cannot be claimed until children reach 3 years of age. There are certain behavioral patterns children exhibit at home, school, or on the playground. We will help you to figure out the signs of ADHD and ways to deal with ADHD children.

1. Interruption

Interruption is a Hyperactive ADHD sign that parents should not ignore. Hyperactive children like to indulge in other people's conversations without any permission. They try to intrude into people’s conversations or activities which does not belong to them or have any importance to them.

Children with such behavior dismiss other people's existence and importance. For instance, a child may break in while two people are talking about office work. Kids might crash into others' belongings without permission.

Talkative is another hyperactive ADHD symptom a child displays. They like to constantly talk and try to engage with others. For them, it’s a belief that talking is the way to build relationships and make friends. They like to talk without interruption. Talking is a way of replenishing salience in the conversation lacking social skills.

3. Being easily distracted

Children with ADHD are easily distracted by the surroundings they live in. Distraction falls under Inattentive ADHD symptoms which are characterized by the inability to focus on a particular thing and the tendency to interrupt. They find it hard to control their attention.

They have very short attention spans. Children who are easily distracted cannot ignore outer stimuli as they have a lower level of brain arousal.

Trouble to wait is another hyperactive symptom of ADHD in a child. Children with such behavior lack the composure to wait. They are unable to wait for their turn during different activities such as playing, conversing with a friend, queuing in line, and many more activities that demand waiting. Their lack of patience sometimes brings them into trouble.

5. Act without thinking

An individual with impulsivity and ADHD sign tend to act without thinking. Children with impulsivity and ADHD are prone to diving into different activities and actions without thinking of the repercussions.

They do not think of the end result of their action which might cause to other individuals or even themselves. Research suggests that parts responsible for impulse control take a longer time to mature in ADHD children.

6. Fidget

Individual with hyperactive ADHD is seen fidgeting most of the time. They rarely stay quiet. Their body is in constant motion. Either they tap their feet on the ground or hit the table with their fingers. They cannot sit idly on the chair even for a moment. They need to have constant motion.

Children with hyperactive ADHD need to pick anything and fidget. Fidgeting helps them to learn, focus, and remember.

7. Difficulty engaging in activities quietly

Children with ADHD often have problemss quietly engaging in any activities. This act is often categorized under hyperactive ADHD sign. They make noises and often talk. They seldom participate in games or any activities without disturbing peace.  They cannot cooperate with their friends in the group. They will lose their cool easily.

8. Engaging in activities loudly or disruptively

Children with this sign are hyperactive ADHD. They have a difficult time engaging with friends and family in peace. They cannot engage in any activity without any noise. They are disruptive. They tend to disturb others and sneak in into others conversation without thinking. They do not seek permission or consent.

9. Forgetting

It’s human nature to forget things which is very normal but people with ADHD have the habit of forgetting things more often than normal people. They have trouble remembering the things they have kept a few hours ago.

They have problems with remembering key dates and days from their life as well. Parts responsible for remembering things have not developed well causing them brain fog.

10. Inattention

If your child is lacking the ability to pay attention more than required, get the clue that might be suffering from ADHD. They cannot pay attention well in any of the activities they engage in. They are easily distracted by the activities of their surroundings.

Children lack self-control. Their is a huge gap between the development of the brain and the activity of the brain which creates less attention time among children.

11. Restlessness

Running around, talking constantly, crashing with friends and walls, and climbing onto anything are the common signs you will see in children suffering from ADHD. It’s the hyperactive ADHD symptom seen in children and adults. They will go against what is not supposed to be done.

For example, children will move out of call when you were supposed to sit steady. They will walk around the classroom restlessly. They are more of a jumper. For teens restlessness occurs more inwards than outwards, unlike kids.

12. Bermuda Triangle syndrome

Orthostatic hypotension, cognitive impairment, and mobility impairment are the symptoms of Bermuda Triangle syndrome. When your child forgets things and misplaces stuff often this is the sign of Bermuda Triangle syndrome an inattentive ADHD sign in a child. They are filled with anecdotes of missing stuff and discovering them in weird places. They will lose track of their daily essentials stuff.

13. Careless mistakes

If you hear a complaint from a teacher that your child often rushes in haste during quiz sessions in calls but fails to answer despite knowing the correct answer to the question, get a clue. It might be a sign of inattentive ADHD in a child. They are seeking unwanted attention from their surroundings.

They perform such actions because they feel the compulsion to draw attention. The coordination of the brain is not aligned with their behavior. The brain tries to keep off to another action which leads to miserable failure.

14. Poor listening skills

Children with ADHD often lack listening skills. Poor listening skills are another sign of inattentive ADHD. This affects a child's ability to listen carefully, concentrate on other people, indulging on owns activities when others are talking or poking through conversation with their tales to tell.

Their brain gets the half instruction. In the classroom, while the teacher is teaching, they barely listen and often occupy themselves by scrambling on their notebook.

Poor listening skills often lead to ignoring people, getting half information, and zoning out. Their working listening ability and working memory are diminished.

15. No follow through

Your child is learning to play basketball but leave it after a few weeks. Your child plans to finish their drawing but leaves it after an hour due to boredom. S/he is working on a call assignment but leaves it discarded.

This is a sign of inattentive ADHD in which the child starts new things with joy but cannot follow through. They lack organizational skills. They initiate tasks but cannot finish them leaving them incomplete and disorganized. Often their room is disorganized. The stuff is scattered all around the room.

They cannot follow the task or project to the end. If a child plans for new tasks or projects but fails with a fake promise is a sign of ADHD. This happens due to the underdevelopment of brain networks.

16. Noisy

Noisy is another hyperactive ADHD sign that parents should not afford to ignore. Children are often shouting and murmuring. Hardly you can see them sitting quietly. Children with noisy signs are using sound to stimulate the brain to concentrate however, it will disturb the people around them.

17. Hyperactive and impulsive ADHD: Daily symptoms

Children often disturb teachers’ sessions in the middle of the class. Climbing off the walls and trees, bouncing off the wall, and poking off classmates or siblings without any reason are some of the daily habits you can observe in a child who is suffering from hyperactive and impulsive ADHD.

18. Inattentive type ADHD: Daily sign

Daily signs and symptoms of inattentive ADHD are often attributed to children losing focus, being very often absent-minded, and lacking listening skills. In the classroom or at home, they often lose in the tiny moment while their task is incomplete.

At home, when a child is playing with toys after a few minutes he might lose interest and engage in another moment. Inattentive ADHD is most common in girls and ignored because it can be hardly spotted, unlike other ADHD types. Adults are seen with lacking apathy and fast altering of mood as an inattentive ADHD sign.

19. Combined type ADHD: Daily sign

Children with combined type ADHD have symptoms of daily behavior of inattentive and hyperactive ADHD. It is mixed with characteristics like often forgetting and zoning out. Children also show signs like a distraction, being talkative, and so on.

20. Lacking apathy

Children often lack apathy and interest in the classroom home or playground. This is the sign of inattentive ADHD in children. Children easily tend to lose interest in their current activity. They hardly find happiness in the activities they are performing.

Similarly, they are not bothered or concerned about their activity by their friends or parents. They are involved in other people's conversations.

Involve involuntarily in other friends’ activity. They are not often lazy which people generalize. They have low motivation. The brain does not release enough dopamine leading to impulsive behavior.

 

 

Handling ADHD children

We believe you are now familiar with the signs and symptoms of ADHD in children. You are well aware of their behavior, actions, and activities at home and beyond. As a parent, it is your responsibility to help kids develop. As said "prevention is better than cure" Let's roll in together to help children grow into healthy adults.

1. Get involved

Get information about ADHD. Follow the doctor's and medicine prescription. Regularly follow whether your child is taking medicine or not. Be apathetic to the child.

2. Teach one thing at a time

As a parent do not burden with a lot of activities. Engage your child in a single activity as his/her brain is not developed enough for multiple activities.

3. Work with school

Your child is at school most of the time. Work closely with school and teacher. Share with them the issues your child is facing. Follow his activities at school with the children.

Work closely with teacher and child to grow him/her well.

4. Check if you have ADHD

It's your responsibility to know if ADHD runs in your genes or not. Check yourself. Take proper counseling and medicine. This will help your child understand them better.

5. Discipline your child with a purpose

Do not force or impose discipline on the kid with ADHD. Learn different discipline methods and approaches from the mentor. Show love and warmth.

Discipline them with purpose. Be careful with your criticism as they are easily offended. Approach in such a way that words are encouraging and motivating rather than offending.

6. Spent time

Your child needs you. Try to spend productive and meaningful time with your children. They need attention. Give full attention for a moment. Praise them for their good action.

7. Speak

Talk about ADHD with children. Do not hesitate about it. Tell them it is not their fault. Encourage them to accept. Comfort them things will be better.

8. Create awareness

As a parent, it is your responsibility to be aware of ADHD in children in your neighborhood and school. Use different media platforms to teach people about ADHD.

The more you help your neighbor and community; the more you are helping your child and yourself. Only an aware community can help you to grow your child healthy.
